We've taken more than 1500 pictures so far so there's lots to choose from.

Day 24

Day 24
Today, we started off the morning by packing up our campsite.
Pam, you really missed one here.
This was a unique place. The camp site was all sand and gravel, there was
a lean to type thing for shade, and a trailer park on the other side of a
wood slat fence.
Not really bad, just odd, like sleeping in a giant cat box. Which it was.
Anyway, we packed up and started the day. The goal was to ride to the
Bonneville Salt Flats and see that place, then ride about 300 miles to
Flaming Gorge, Wyoming. But first, breakfast....
Hey Marie, this one's for you. There really is such a place. We had a very good breakfast at the Red Garter Casino.
2 Eggs, meat, hash browns, and toast $2.99. Not bad at all.
From the Red Garter, it was on to the Bonneville Salt Flats.

See, we are here.
We rode our bikes out onto the salt flats, just to see what it felt like.
We also rode a little.
Here's Jims speedometer during one of his runs.
This one's for you Pam. 95 mph one handed. Someone had to take the
picture.
Doug and I both did 85 mph. Just no pictures. It doesn't sound like it's
all that fast, but remember, we're loaded down with all our gear on street
bikes. 85 and 95 are quite fast enough thank you.
Sarah R. this is for you....
159 square miles of dry salt and Doug found the one salty, muddy puddle
and promptly drove through it. Thought you might enjoy that.
He says he sucked it up and went on.
That's because his big brother washed his bike off.
Buddy, check this bike out. 2 runs, about 8 miles, through the salt flats.
Had to break down and take this one to the car wash. I had salt crammed everywhere.

Anyway.....
On the road again.
I could go through miles and miles of the road, but I won't. There were
some interesting pictures though.
Interstate 80 on and on and on.....
We reached Lyman Wyoming. We are at a KOA campground. This one is great
compared to last nights cat box.
We drove to down town Lyman for dinner. Found a pizza/ice cream/movie store and had a pizza.
Bought some snacks and beer then returned to the campsite, got a 5 gallon bucket for the beer and ice, then started the laundry. Then got out the computer to write and upload today's blog entry.
Tomorrow it's on to the gorge and then east.
Total mileage as of this evening: 6021.7
Day 23
Well, Pam left us this morning. This evening we're back to our regular dinner of peanut butter and beer.
This morning we woke to the sound of a pack of coyotes yipping and howling. It was pretty cool. Doug and I broke camp and rode the 15 miles up to the interstate to meet Jim. Pam's plane got off ok, so she, by now, is back in civilization.
Jim, Doug and I all pulled into the prearranged meeting place within minutes of each other. After a quick breakfast it was back on the road.
On the road and through the mountain!
Today's ride will once again cover hundreds of miles of desert. We will be riding all the way from Reno to Wendover Nevada, over 400 miles.
This time we will be traveling on Interstate 80. Now folks, I don't know how many of you have crossed Nevada before, and this is not a dig against Nevada, but there's not a lot here to stop and see.Interstate 80
Hills on interstate 80
More interstate 80
More interstate 80 again...You guessed it....interstate 80
See what I mean.
We're in Wendover
Oh Brother!
Lucy,we're home!

What the......
This is the KOA Wendover, not one blade of grass anywhere....
Tonight is going to be fun!

Day 22 Pam leaves us to fend for ourselves

Day 22
This morning we woke up in Shingletown CA. Not a bad nights rest I must admit. Jim and Pam of course got the Perfect sleeper straw campsite, while Doug and I got the same old tent sites.
Today is volcano day. We came across the Lassen Volcanic National Park. We saw this while on yesterdays ride and decided it rated a visit. State Rt. 89 ran right through the park.
For motorcycles or even autos, 89 is a good ride.
We drove to the Volcano park, stopped at the visitors center and saw much of the historical information on display there.

There are many hiking trails to choose from, we decided to take the one leading to "Bumpass Hell". This is an area of boiling water, boiling mud pits, steaming fumaroles, and just general bad stuff. Besides, it was the shortest hike available.
Told you this was the easy trail.
On the road again.
Leaving Lassen Volcanic National Park.
From here, Pam and Jim head to the Hotel in Reno, the Boomtown Resort and Casino, Doug and I head to our lakeside paradise.
The last few moments of Pams ride.

Our lakeside paradise....not exactly..This is Lahontan State Rec. Area.

This is home for the night.
Oh boy.....
274 miles today

As an additional comment for day 20
This picture of Doug was captured outside of a .......
Jim saw this and said"Quick, get a picture of this" Doug's buying flowers.
Of course I shot the picture. When Doug came back, we laughed a bit about this and I told Jim and Pam that I couldn't say a word because I had sent Marie flowers a couple of days ago. At this Pam poked Jim and said "So you're the only one" I think Jims answer was something like I didn't have to I brought you all the way out here with me. Good cover Jim.....
