Day 4
As previously posted, we started the day with breakfast and blogging at the Kopper Kitchen in La Junta Colorado. Again, thanks to the folks there for taking care of us for the more than 1.5 hours it took to get every thing arranged and uploaded.
From there we took off and continued west on RT. 50 to Pueblo CO and the Royal Gorge Bridge.
Our first adventure along the way was a ride over Skyline Drive. For those of you who have done this short ride, you know what I mean when I say I'm sooooooo glad it was short.
Skyline Drive is a ribbon of black top about 8 feet wide that runs along the top of a ridge of hills.
I don't like heights, period. This was a white knuckle ride for me. If there was rock on the left I hugged the left shoulder, rock on the right, the right shoulder. Some places had no rock on either side. There I was right down the middle. Jim and Doug didn't seem to mind at all. Fortunately...it was short!
From Skyline Drive it was on to Pueblo and the Royal Gorge.
On arriving at the Royal Gorge we found that every thing has changed since we were here last. You need a $24 pass just to go out on the bridge. Since we had been there before we decided to just view the bridge from outside.
Every group has one...Jim's ours.
From the Royal Gorge it was on to Gunnison CO. This required a trip across the Rocky Mts. Crossing the Great Divide at Monarch Pass.
It was overcast and spitting all the way.
After a relatively short ride we were in the mountains and climbing! We reached the summit of the pass at 11312 ft.! The bikes ran good thank you.
After reaching the summit, it was on to tonight's camp ground. Tonight we are staying at a KOA camp ground in Gunnison CO. Wi Fi is available. That means today's post will be on time.
Now it's time to call this day over.
Tomorrow, it's on to Arches National Park Utah. This should be great!
Folks, we have an awesome country. Take any chance you have to travel and see everything you can. It's worth it!
Pam said Jim better get back over that fence. JIM
