Day 6
This was our good morning greeting at Devils Garden Campground.
Some wake up eh? I'll take this any day.
This is an awesome wake up!
Now, today's ride will be some 200 plus miles to Nevada. Before starting the trip, Jim and Doug wanted to see Delicate Arch. This was a short 3 mile round trip in the desert. Morning is best for this. I thought morning was fine for a nap. So, Doug and Jim made the 3 mile trek out to the arch and back.
Delicate Arch
I took a nap on my bike.
Upon their return we started the days journey by heading off to Green River, Utah via st. rt. 191, for breakfast and a last fuel up before the 100 mile ride through Utah to Salina. This was 110 miles with no service stops. At this point there should have been some inkling that something was amiss.
On our trek from Green River, Utah to Ely, Nevada we crested summits with elevations of 7886, 5970, 7722, and I didn't catch the last one. By this time the day was a lot longer than expected. Lets add this up....From Arches to Green River it was 68 miles. From Green River to Salina was 110 mi. From Salina to Delta was 69 mi. From Delta to the border of Nevada was 88 miles then to Ely was 74 miles. Some where around Salina we started to see that the 200 plus mile ride for the day was going to be more like 400 miles of desert.
Not a happy camper.
Murder was out of the question. But not far!
It did turn out to be a neat ride though.
Seems like forever
We did eventually reach Nevada.
But there was still much more road to run.
We did eventually reach Ely, Nevada. A total of 409 miles was run today
We settled in at the Ely KOA, pitched tents spoke to loved ones at home for a few minutes then it was off to dinner. Dinner was at the historic Hotel Nevada and Gambling Hall.
Dinner was good as expected. After dinner it was showers, laundry and posting the days adventures. Tune in tomorrow for more. It's now time for a nap. It's been a loooooong day.
