Day 10
Last night was a particularly restless night. After the ordeal getting a campground at all we were very tired from the days activities. So around 8:30 Doug turned in. About 9 or 9:30 I turned in. About 10pm a group of 8 or 9 people showed up and pitched their tents within 15 feet of Doug's tent.
Doug's tent was in the dry area behind Doug
They proceeded to have a really good time until around 1:30 then most turned in, except 2 or 3 who stayed up til 3. It might have been interesting except I don't speak German, so I couldn't even listen in. I don't know, maybe I might have joined in.
Any way, quiet time in the campground is 10pm - 6 am. So....at 6am on the dot.....you already know don't you? Yep, I started my Harley 20 ft. from their tents. Have to warm it up for the day, you know. While it was warming up I wiped the road grime from all the chrome, basically let in run and warm up for about 15 minutes, then Doug started his. His pipes are louder than mine. He proceeded to run through the same routine as I did. After about a half hour of this we shut them off. Fifteen minutes later we did it again. It was just too quiet. After packing up, we left with only a slight flourish.
Each day has it's little bright spots:)
Next it was on to the rangers station to get our camping situation straightened out. The opened Crane Flats this morning, and we were able to get in and set up camp. We were only the third group in this morning. so we had our pick of sites. We picked a very nice one with lots of area to set up.
Bears in the Campground
As we drove around searching for the camp site Doug Spotted a bear and 2 cubs roaming the campground. We stopped and took several pictures. Then rode around the bears for a different angle. Yes we stayed our distance.
Every trip has it's every day tasks that must be done. Today was laundry day. Jim and Pam were checked into the Yosemite Hotel in Yosemite Village. They were going to take a day hike up to some falls nearby.
This is part of the trail.
Jim and Pam at the foot bridge to Vernal Falls
Vernal Falls
Pool at the base of Vernal falls...cool!
Pam at Vernal Falls. For all of you who know Pam, this is quite a hike.
See what I mean? At this point...there are 700 steps in this part of the trail.
This picture is those steps that Pam is on in the picture above. Kinda' puts a new perspective on it doesn't it?They made it to the top. But where's the picture of Pam and Jim?
They continued their hike around Nevada Falls. Then returned to the hotel.
While they were off having fun Doug and I did laundry and got showers. Laundry was cheap, showers were 5 bucks apiece, but, after 2 days in state parks with no facilities, showers felt great, even if the shower stall was half the size of a phone booth. You can only wash so well out of a water bottle. We took a short hike up to the Bridal Veil Falls to get some pictures. Today it was more like Bridal Veil Trickle.
Still awesome!
Careful in all that water..?
Normally the stream would flow under that bridge.
We then had lunch at the village deli. Sandwiches were pretty good.
We met up with Jim and Pam later in the day. In their hotel room we uploaded day 9. Went to the grocery store for some supplies then headed back to camp. Camp is about 16 miles from Yosemiti village and I really don't like to ride these roads after dark. Heck, I'm leery of these roads in the day time!
Pictures from the ride back.
The sun beginning to set.
Be it ever so humble...home sweet home...I know that's not the quote...
Doug and I had a reasonably pleasant evening under our tarp awning. A dinner of spicy sausage and cheese was just right.
Now for a chilly night in the tents.
Hope we can get this posted tomorrow.
