Day 16 Humbolt and the Giant Redwoods

Day 16
We left Humboldt State park after a restful night among the Giant Redwoods. On the way we continued following the Avenue of Giants. This is, to say the least, an eye opening drive. To think, there used to be 1.9 million acres of these trees. Today there are about 90 thousand acres. We stopped at the Founders treeStats of the Founders tree

This is an enormous tree in Humboldt Forest dedicated to the founders of the SRL. Save the Redwood League.
We also saw the Giant Redwood and the even larger downed giant redwood.Doug standing next to the fallen tree that was once one of the largest living things on the planet.
You've got to blow this picture up to get the real story. Doug is nearly 6 ft. tall. He's less than half the height of the down tree!

I hate to keep using the word....but....awesome!
Awesome!
After Humboldt we rode to Eureka and had lunch. Not bad.
On the road again heading to somewhere to camp for the night.
Tonight, Port Orford Oregon. KOA campgrounds...wireless problems. I remember now!!! That's why I'm doing two of these tonight! Maybe three. When we pulled in the KOA folks said they were still cleaning up after the wedding. Wedding at a KOA? OK. Anyway, No pictures of that campground. We just slept there, then left in the morning.
Till tomorrow, or maybe I'll do day 17 tonight. We're at Lincoln City and the KOA wireless works great.
