Day 14 Carmel

Day 14
Folks, as I write this, Jim, Pam, and Doug are asleep. I just finished posting day 13. I'm still at the same KOA with the same internet. My guess is the same problems will plague this post. Photos may be a problem, so, I just lit up a nice El Artista Bambino cigar and I'm not going to fret too much about it. I'll do what I can and the rest will come later.
Now...on to bigger and better things. Although I'm not sure there IS better than an El Artista Bmbino!
Anyway....Today was the trip from Big Sur State park to Carmel. As stated before, I'm not much of a city person, so the ride today was going to be it's own reward.
Just tried to upload another photo and it also was a no go. So, no photos today. I'll post them at a later time.
Needless to say, the ride up the coast to Carmel was another trip with more spectacular scenery of the California coast. Wait till you see the pictures, just great....I feel very handicapped without photos...oh well.
Carmel was a time for me to catch up on the blog, which I did ....after a fashion. I posted 2 days and figured I would get the rest later. Now is later and this isn't working out so good.
So....we went to Carmel, saw a bunch of stuff then left. Again, I found that neat little bistro to work in and that was great!
When we left Carmel, we traveled up the coast to San Fransisco and across the Golden Gate bridge. That was pretty cool! It would be even better if I had pictures.....we have some really good ones of the houses along the route to the bridge, some great ones crossing the bridge and some good ones from the Golden Gate Park at the other side of the bridge...yeah... really great pictures...none of which can I load.....Oh well, nothing works perfectly all the time, 'ceptin maybe this cigar. The hi point of my evening.
Anyway, after the bridge we traveled up to Petaloma and set up camp for the night. Pam was thrilled, the petaloma KOA was surrounded by cows and horses. A fine aroma was enjoyed by all!
Onward!

  1. Wow, you're in my old stomping grounds! I lived in Petaluma for about four years, and then another seven in Santa Rosa. And yes, in Petaluma you're going to get lots of "fragrance au naturale" from all the farms. Also, this time of year they spread "liquid gold" also known as manure, they spray it from the back of a big tank truck, one of which you don't want to be behind on the road! Yikes! Especially on a motorcycle. That's some serious ick.

Petaluma is a quaint little town that refuses to grow up, it has some beautiful houses, and lots of fun shops on Petaluma Boulevard. If the A&W Root Beer place is still there, it's a good stop. That is the street where they filmed the movie American Graffiti.

I don't know if you're headed on up the coast before you read this, but, the absolutely best Italian food you'll ever eat can be had at the Union Hotel in Occidental, a beautiful country ride and not far from Petaluma. It is WORTH going.

North of Petaluma on Highway 101, up near Sacramento, is a Budweiser plant, and they give a nice tour, and you get to sample the beer at the end of the tour.

Another great stop is the Jelly Belly factory.

Wineries... my most favorite winery is on 101 just north of Petaluma, in Geyserville. They have some awesome wines to sample. This would be before you get to the Bud factory.

Very nice touch mentioning the cigar. My sweetheart, Noble is a cigar lover and gives me the honor of ordering them when his stock runs low. There's something delicious about a nice glass of 25 year old port, and a fine cigar. And a good woman if you can handle that much pleasure all in one sitting.

I'm so glad ya'll'er traveling up through California, there is so much to see, the weather should be perfect this time of year, just right for a great ride.

Take care, and have as much fun as you can stand.

    *hugs*

  2. Thanks for the info Molly, and thanks for following our little adventure. It has been a blast so far. Unfortunately, I'm running a couple of days behind on posting the blog so we are already in Oregon. I would have liked to try the Union Hotel for dinner. Sounds great. The brew pubs and wineries, as much as I would enjoy them are off the table because of the bikes. They are our only transport. Can't take the chance. Oh well. Actually we're in Lincoln City OR. We'll be heading inland across 18 to McMinnville tomorrow. Gotta see the Spruce Goose while we're here. After that it's on to Portland and then the Columbia River Gorge.
By the way, you're right on all 3 counts, but to enjoy all 3 properly is a skill that must be developed over time.
Always enjoy hearing from you Molly.
