Day 15

day 15
Today we left the Petaluma KOA and drove toward Humbolt Redwood State Park. This was one wild ride. Initially the fog was so thick you had to use a fork just to get through it. We stopped and enjoyed some view points a couple of times hoping the fog would burn off.

First video from us at the beach....wow!

The wind off the ocean was strong all day, sometimes very strong. This has been the way all up the coast. Strong winds, narrow winding roads, loads of scenery to distract us. All in all a great ride!
Once things cleared up enough to see, we ventured on once again. We stopped at Pt. Arena to see the lighthouse there. This is the new concrete and steel lighthouse. Decommissioned in 1976
Doug's bike and mine as viewed from the top of the lighthouse. Cool Huh?
Then....
We drove through a tree....Yep, you can still do that, the famous one in all the photos fell I believe in 1991. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
It's not like that would be a first or anything. Maybe the 4th or 5th.Jim
Doug
Yours truly
If you have never seen these trees, you are in for a real....... surprise is not the word...these are in every respect, awe inspiring.
Such massive things. they are really amazing.
We stopped several times on the way to our camp site at Humbolt.
It is quite a feeling to set up camp under these giants.
This was our sky....unreal!
This was our campsite...Also awesome!
We had wanted to ride the Avenue of the Giants, but it was getting late and we needed to get camp set up. We figured we would backtrack in the morning and catch it then. Fortunately for us, Humbolt is ON the Avenue of the Giants. We got to ride several miles of the Ave. in twilight. This is just amazing.
Turns out we still had 20 plus miles of the Ave. to ride in the morning, going our direction, north.
This was simply amazing....
Till tomorrow,
Or maybe just a few minutes til I write the next days entry.

  1. The Avenue Of The Giants is nice in a car, but it has to be amazing on a motorcycle. Glad to see you made it to the Chandler tree. That's an important Kodak moment.
