Day Three
After a relatively restful night, we packed up and left Cross Timbers State Park and continued on down the road.
The first hundred miles was some what normal. A little chilly but good riding weather. We are stopping to fuel up about every 120 miles. This gives us a rest and keeps the tanks topped off. Being a holiday, we're not sure how many gas stations will be open. So far, no problem.
We decided to Drop down to Rt. 54 and pass through Dodge City. The first hundred miles or so were pretty good. A little windy but not bad. We stopped for gas in Greensburg. Here we met a fellow rider from about an hour and a half from Greensburg who suggested we stop at The Big Well. This was interesting in that the tornado of 2007 just about wiped Greensburg off the map. All of the buildings with the Big Well too.

We spoke with a couple of people who had been through the tornado. A terrible experience no matter how you look at it. For our rider friend..take care of that back so you can keep riding. Thanks for the info on the next leg. It was right on.
First we were attacked by a vicious dog at one of our gas stops.
Then of course was the very interesting yard art. I know there's a story here, we just didn't stop to hear it. Maybe we should have.

The next leg through Kansas was hard.
From Greensburg to the Colorado border the wind was continuous, hi and gusty. The speed limit on 50 at this point is 70. Here's Jim at 70mph.
There were a tremendous number of trucks. Between the wind, the heat, and the trucks, it was a constant battle to stay on the highway and vertical. By the time we hit the Colorado line we were all pretty well beat. Amazingly enough, the wind seemed to almost stop as we crossed into Colorado.
This night we camped at the John Martin Reservoir. The campground is in a neat area below the dam called The Hasty Campground. A very pleasant night was spent here. Actually, nothing against the park, but I think any where would have been pleasant after that ride.
I was worn out. All in all, a great ride!

For those interested, I'm in no real pain at all. I think the ride is actually helping.
Mileage day three...apx. 360
